liv: a small name with a big meaning
Our innovative finishes have adopted a new name. Mercier Generations + is now liv and Generations Intact 2500 is now livUP.
Scandinavian Origin
Last Fall, in our search for a short yet meaningful name, we came across the word liv, of Scandinavian origin, meaning both life and protection.
The choice felt obvious, as it perfectly reflects what our finishes do- they protect the life of wood floors. As an added bonus, liv is easy to remember!
As Generations Intact 2500 is the next level up in our finishes, the addition of UP felt like a natural fit. UP conveys elevation and excellence, while also standing for Ultimate Performance.
An Ambitious but Well-Planned Transition
Fully aware that this transition would require significant work and updates to our marketing tools, we were motivated by the opportunity to introduce a dynamic, high-end brand with strong communication potential. Since January, Mercier retailers across North America have already begun transitioning to the new branding.
As a result, by the second half of 2026, the names of the former finishes are expected to be fully replaced by liv and livUP.
Marketing and Promotional Initiatives Ahead
While Mercier retailers have received information over the past few months regarding the new finishes, their technical improvements, and the innovations that make them the most durable, resistant, and easy-to-clean hardwood floor finishes, consumer-focused and trade-oriented promotional initiatives will begin to roll out shortly.
Our ambition is clear: that anyone planning a construction or renovation project and considering prefinished hardwood flooring be informed of the advantages of Mercier floors, as well as the benefits of our liv and livUP protective finishes—designed to perform even in the most demanding environments.
