A 100% trendy - yet local- novelty
Mercier Wood Flooring recently announced and released in June a highly anticipated novelty: the 7 1/2'' width, in Red Oak, White Oak and Hard Maple, in Engineered 3/4''.
This new option replaces the 8 1/8'' width in the wood species and collections in which it was previously offered.
As a result: an improved offer of long and wide floors in most of our collections, with a distinctive look, perfectly aligned with current trends; design professionals and consumers are looking for wide wooden planks to visually amplify the space.
It even gets better; this novelty is entirely manufactured in our Drummondville sawmill! Following important investments to optimize our state-of-the art equipments, we are now able to locally produce this format, which allows to address the increasing demand for high-end engineered products, with speed and agility.
The proper balance between character and uniformity
The major challenge in this product development was to obtain a good balance between the superior width and a homogeneous, yet refined visual rendering. A superior width means an increase in the size and frequency of character marks in the wood, as well as color variations.
However, we really wanted to offer a coherent look, without too marked contrasts or significant color variations, in order to create a real wow effect. And that is why each wood species available in this new width comes in the grade that best reveal all its richness: Authentic for White Oak, Distinction for Hard Maple, and Select & Better for the Red Oak.
The 7 1/2'' definitely improves an already complete offer, but most importantly it has an attractive price positioning. This platform offers more than 65 shades ranging from natural to very deep brown, various glosses (Satin, Matte, Matte-brushed or Intact, depending on the wood specie and the collection) and is always protected with one of our Mercier Generations+ or Generations Intact 2500 finishes, recognized among the best in the industry.
